Rizhao Steel’s“Shandong Province Innovation Center for Steel Rolling Technology”, has been approved for construction

Recently, the Department of Science and Technology of Shandong Province announced the list of 21 provincial technology innovation centers to be established in 2023 (Document No. LuKe [2023] 150). The "Shandong Province Innovation Center for Steel Rolling Technology" led by Rizhao Steel, has been approved for establishment and is currently the only provincial technology innovation center in the steel industry of Shandong Province.

The Shandong Province Innovation Center for Steel Rolling Technology, led by Rizhao Steel, will be established with joint effortsof University of Science and Technology Beijing, Central Iron & Steel Research Institute, Qingdao CIMC, Wuzheng Group, Rizhao Xingye Auto Parts, and other scientific research institutions and the downstream of the industry chain. It focuses primarily on key common technologies such as low-carbon metallurgy, clean steel production, thin slab continuous casting and rolling, efficient rolling, energy conservation and environmental protection, aiming to drive innovation in green and low-carbon steel technologies and promote the production of environmentally friendly products. Once the center is established, it will tackle the technical challenges related to headless rolling of hot-rolled strip steel, effectively advance carbon reduction and emissions reduction, and contribute to achieving the "dual-carbon" goals in the production and manufacturing of strip steel. It will lead the collaborative and sustainable development of the upstream and downstream sectors of the steel industry, fostering a green and healthy industry chain.

In the next step, Rizhao Steel will adhere to the core leading rolein technological innovation, continuously strengthen the construction of innovation platforms, take "low carbonization", "lightweight", "longevity" of steel industry development needs as a guide, and accelerate the research on green steel technologies and the development of "specialty, precision, and high-quality" products. It will actively play the leading role of the “chain master”,closely integrate with academic institutions, regional steel service centers, and the downstream of the industrial chain, striving for efficient synergy and integration among government support, industrial production, academic research, financial resources, services, and utilization. Together, they will create an ecological circle for the green, low-carbon, and high-quality development of the steel industry.
