On the morning of September 16, 2023, the launch ceremony for the "Transition from old to new drivers of growth and Digital and Intelligent Transformation and Upgrading Major Project" of Rizhao Steel was successfully held. Accompanied by Yan Xiuxun, the Secretary of the Group Party Committee, the ceremony was attended by Li Zaiwu, the Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Director of the Municipal People's Congress Standing Committee, Wang Xinsheng, the Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, Ming Ming, the Secretary-General of the Municipal Party Committee, Jia Gang, a member of the Municipal Party Committee and Deputy Mayor, Lin Jie, the Secretary-General of the Municipal Government, Jiao Chunfeng, the Secretary of the District Party Committee, Zhou Shengyuan, the Deputy Secretary of the District Party Committee and District Chief, as well as representatives from the Municipal and District Development and Reform Commission, Industry and Information Technology Bureau, Ecological Environment Bureau, and MCC-SIDDI.

The launch ceremony signifies Rizhao Steel's commitment to implementing the provincial and municipal deployment for accelerating the green and low-carbon transformation of the steel industry. With an estimated investment of about 10 billion yuan, the project aims to upgrade the existing 16 small blast furnaces and 2 60-ton converters to a "larger capacity, higher output" configuration, and the construction of 3,000 cubic meter blast furnace and 120-ton converter will be upgraded and completed in 2026. Simultaneously, the company will promote digital and intelligent transformation and updating, and accelerate digital empowerment and efficiency through the application of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine vision, and big data algorithms, aiming to create a full-process smart factory. Once the project is completed, all the equipment of Rizhao Steel will have achieved large-scale, green, and intelligent. Its main processes and technologies will have reached international advanced levels, and the whole process will have realized "equipment automation, business informatization, service networking, and intelligent operation". The goal is to create an advanced steel manufacturing base with world-class competitiveness, capable of producing 20 million tons annually.

The successful launch ceremony marks a historical milestone for Rizhao Steel in its pursuit of green, low-carbon, and high-quality development. Building upon this new starting point, the company will thoroughly implement the major decisions and requirements of the provincial and municipal governments, accelerate project construction, strengthen the "chain-master" mindset, embrace the "ecological" thinking, cultivate and expand the ESP specialty industry cluster, take the lead in extending and strengthening the value chain, and steadfastly embark on the path of innovation-driven, green, and low-carbon high-quality development.
